Rick Rubin and Malcolm Gladwell have just launched a new podcast called Broken Record, in which they talk to notable musicians about “how songs are made and why they work.” Their first guest is man-of-the-hour, Eminem, who just dropped his new single “Walk on Water” with Beyoncé earlier today.

During the 15-minute episode, Eminem and Rick walk us through the making of “Walk on Water,” from how a conversation about the rise of “mumble rap” inspired the song to how they got Beyoncé on the record. Em also talks about the struggle of staying creative and appeasing his numerous fanbases, and gushes over his favorite rappers growing up — from Beastie Boys and Big L to Public Enemy and Pac (“He never said the wrong thing on the wrong chord”).
