Meek Mill Sentenced to 2 to 4 Years In Prison for Probation Violation

According to CBS 3 Philadelphia’s Joe Holden, Meek Mill has been sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison for probation violations. The MMG rapper was arrested for fighting at a St. Louis airport in March, and arrested again in August for recklessly driving his dirt bike in NYC.

Both cases have since been dropped, but were still determined to have violated his probation by a Philadelphia Judge during a sentence hearing earlier today. Meek’s probation stems from a 2008 drug and gun conviction; violations previously landed him in jail in 2014 and on house arrest in 2016.

UPDATE #1: Via Philly.com:

Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkley imposed the sentence on Mill after he was twice arrested this year. In explaining her decision, an exasperated Brinkley recounted for the 30-year-old hip-hop artist the number of chances she had given him over the years and said he had been “just thumbing your nose at me.”

After he is shipped off to state prison, she said, “I’ll be done with you.”

Defense attorney Brian McMonagle declined comment. But asked if he would appeal the sentence, McMonagle said, “You’re goddamned right I am.”

UPDATE #2: JAY-Z, whose Roc Nation company manages Meek Mill, took to Facebook to release a statement denouncing the sentence. “The sentence handed down by the Judge – against the recommendation of the Assistant District Attorney and Probation Officer – is unjust and heavy handed,” said the mogul/rapper. “We will always stand by and support Meek Mill, both as he attempts to right this wrongful sentence and then in returning to his musical career.”
