Phife Dawg Reportedly Passes Away at Age 45

Phife Dawg, Of A Tribe Called Quest, Has Reportedly Passed Away.

The Hip-hop community has lost another great. Phife Dawg, member of the iconic rap group A Tribe Called Quest, has reportedly passed away. DJ/producer pioneer Chuck Chillout announced the news on Twitter early Wednesday morning (Mar. 23), followed by DJ/producer Statik Selektah later confirming the news.

A native of Queens, New York, Phife Dawg (born Malik Isaac Taylor) is a well-known diabetic, getting a kidney transplant in 2008. Also known as the “Five Foot Assassin,” there’s currently no word of the type 1 diabetes Phife was first diagnosed with in 1990, was the cause of death.

Last November on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Phife and A Tribe Called Quest reunited for their first television appearance in over 15 years, performing their “Can I Kick It?” classic. The moment was in celebration of the 25th anniversary of ATCQ’sPeople’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm debut album.
