Scroll below and immerse yourself in great music from acts you might have never heard about.

1. Jaylon Ashaun – Settle

Singer-songwriter Jaylon Ashaun shares a cinematic visual for his latest release “Settle.” After making his debut in 2015 with the release of his first album “Identity” Jaylon has been on the rise, he has added an album titled “Dream of You,” and several visual aids to his repertoire of releases. His music can be described as “a crossover between R&B and Pop sounds.” Some of his major musical influences include One Republic, Xavier Omar, John Legend, Jon Bellion, and Lianne La Havas.

“Settle,” is accompanied by a cinematic video full of masked-characters in varying disguises, including a handful of pig-faced creatures creeping eerily around a stoic Jaylon. With a slow and steady pace, a muddled and browbeaten Jaylon can be seen realizing his strength and potential. Not your average pop music short, the video takes place in a simple setting, using Jaylon’s natural talent and artistry to lure in viewers. This elevating track with its stripped down beat and compelling vocals, will enchant and encourage even the most downtrodden of audiences.

2. Boy Days – In My Ways

Following the release of a debut single, London-based trio Boy Days have unveiled the next sultry cut from their forthcoming EP of the same name, ‘In My Ways’. Countless soul medleys and function band rehearsals later, this next taste of the forthcoming release is infused with a blissful concoction of nostalgia as Chris (vocals/guitar), Leo (keys/bass/backing vocals) and Dan (drums) look back fondly on their former years with each playful flourish. Boy Days are very much indebted to those who have come before them, but there’s a remarkable flicker of greatness behind Chris’ unique poetry that’ll keep the words dancing on your mind for days to come.

Juxtaposed with a jubilant gospel organ and Chris’ 70s Soul Train era falsetto, new single ‘In My Ways’ portrays a menacing relationship of ‘cackling bedsprings’ and ‘sweat and ale’ as the brutal lover continues to get what he wants. The eerily dissonant harmonies give the track a foreboding undertone, but when the three-piece launch into a chorus of pure unadulterated soul, it’s clear there’s a core of incredibly strong songwriting at the heart of the band. Tastefully embracing a plethora of classic influences, from the likes of Suede to Jeff Lynne, Boy Days know exactly what they like and where they’re going with it.

3. Slikk Darko – Never Brag

St. Louis rapper Slikk Darko shares his new single “Never Brag” produced by Love Baker. On this banger of a track, slikk responds to well wishers pondering why the artist is never one to brag. Consistent with slikk’s self proclaimed “crib” sound, the rapper continues to impress with his braggadocios but charismatically witty bars over dark, heavy instrumentals. This is slikk’s first release since he and fellow St. Louis rapper chrisfrmkro released their debut EP “cribology” and they prep to release a follow up this summer.

4. 60 East – Almost There

60 East takes viewers on tour with him to Europe in his latest Music Video “Almost There”, which is also the Single to his upcoming release “The Freeway Series Vol 2: Cruise Control”. Following up with a sequel to his critically acclaimed debut EP, 60 continues on with his EP Series that is guaranteed to get listeners familiar with his musical journey.

Almost There, and the rest of the EP, is produced in its entirety by long time friend and collaborator Phil The Pain. The video starts with 60’s experience at the 15th annual Hip Hop Kemp Festival then continues on one of his recent European Tours, traveling through the continent and performing in various countries. The video is also filled with tons of cameos including A-F-R-O, Devin The Dude, Mr. Green, Jehst and Tek of Smif N Wessun.

5. Freight Train – Sweet Love Feat. Denzel Wilson

It’s been a while since R&B and Hip-Hop music taught a man how to love a woman. These days, catering to women as if she was goddess has become forgotten. This track reminds the ladies how they should be treated and how the fellas should implement sweet love, towards the right one.

Freight Train from Maplewood, New Jersey is the definition of a 90’s baby. His appreciation for lyricism and flow are what have carved his way and guided the direction of his music. From professional ghost writing to features and guest appearances, FT’s lyrics have graced tracks all over Map$o and the DMV area. Now, this independent artist and New Jersey Native is working diligently to bring that authentic 90’s Hip-Hop sound and style back to today’s rap game.
