21-year-old artist and producer 169 (aka Tyrell Paul) drops a serious new jam “No Fears” – featuring one of the most iconic rappers in the city in Wretch 32.
“No Fears” emerges as a slow-burning Caribbean influenced jam and also an assertion of considered, wise movements in the music industry and in life. It’s a sleek banger and explicit gem-dropper that underlines 169’s thrilling combination of wisdom and finesse. With a trademark exemplary 16 bars from Wretch, it’s a lesson in how they’re both moving right now.
As a producer, it’s no exaggeration that 169 has blazed one of the most remarkable paths in the UK right now: working extensively with #1 UK rap star Dave (a close school friend from Streatham, South London) they started making music together and 169 would go on to produce the classic track “Thiago Silva” for Dave and AJ Tracey. Tyrell and Dave then wrote Dave’s ‘Six Paths’ EP together, including the hit “Wanna Know” that US superstar Drake would go on to co-sign and release together.
