The Vancouver-based musician Adewolf journeys down memory lane on the track and finds a silver lining in all that is going wrong around him.
Adewolf’s engaging narration transports us to Lagos, where he faces hazards at police checkpoints, internal struggles over jealousy, and other challenges. “Because I want to flex like Hushpuppi, but my conscience got the best of me, and I don’t have time for envy, so I’ll enjoy Bare Necessities.“
Khamisa’s voice adorn the synth-led tune, which urges listeners to be grateful for the simple things and puts a modern spin on a famous praise and worship hymn. On the chorus, they duet, “count them one by one, count them one by one, I’m counting all my blessings, if I lose guys, that’s another lesson.”
As the year comes to a close, this song is ideal for encouraging good reflection and thankfulness. “I created this song to remind myself to search for lessons in losses and to be grateful no matter how bad things feel in the moment.”
