In the wake of Lil Durk’s ascendence, the concept of OTF, or “Only The Family,” became a mantra so ubiquitous that it’s likely not everyone who uses it even recognizes the association with Durk’s Chicago-based crew. With their Family Over Everything compilation, however, the real OTF emerges from the margins to try and right that wrong.
The crew’s members (Durk, Booka600, Jusblow600, King Von, Memo600, Doodie Lo, Otf Ikey) are pictured on the project’s cover, their snapshots arranged by hierarchy like members of an organized crime syndicate. The capers across Family Over Everything are hardly organized, though, each voice pitching in to offer testimony about fake friends, continuous gunplay, and self-medicating to ease the trauma of their lifestyles. Naturally, Durk’s voice is the one we hear the most, but as a showcase for a handful of personalities the world has yet to get to know, the project confirms him as a family man if nothing else.
