Hailed as one of the most thoughtfully brilliant rising artists at present, UK rapper ato announces his return and his forthcoming project ‘EP3’ with the release of his brand new single “24”.
Courtesy of long-term collaborator EDEN, “24” Is defined by its hazy aura, crafted with mellow, lo-fi production that leans on alternative R&B, trap and alternative tendencies. Merging his signature blend of bars and vocals with near poetic delivery, it’s spirited in its approach in allowing ato to express creative freedom – the very same that has garnered him support and acclaim.

Always one to impress on the visual front, his latest effort (directed by Joey Brodnax) follows the theme of previous videos with its freeform, low budget, DIY-style approach. The quasi-choreography and visual effects contribute to an overall eclectic visual that is a refreshing take on the UK’s hip-hop scene.

A nomad of sorts having spent much of his formative years in Seoul, Ithaca New York, Copenhagen and Cape Town, his early travels and exposure to different cultures reflect the varying nature of his musical influences as he cites artists from Eminem, Kano, Ghostpoet and Amy Winehouse as influences.

Amongst a crop of upcoming UK artists like Jesse James Solomon, M Huncho, Nafe Smallz, Octavian and A2, ato’s unique lane continues to establish himself as a name worth paying attention to – previous support from COMPLEX, TRENCH and LOST CULTURE attests to this. As we anticipate the eventual release of his EP with further production by EDEN and a guest feature from US rapper Vic Mensa, “24” is a key reminder of the sheer creative force that ato is shaping up to be.
