Ben Alessi releases the official video for “U,” the first single from his forthcoming EP. The NYC-based recording artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist follows up the recently released audio with his “enchanting sonic and visual experience.” (Billboard) Taking place on Brooklyn’s iconic Coney Island, the psychedelic kaleidoscope of visuals mirrors the symmetry and texture of Ben’s intricate songwriting and perfectly captures a person’s feelings of being in love. Director Nicholas Wingate said narrating from a lover’s point of view immediately came to mind on hearing “U” and so he applied his concept of a “pictureshow” to this narrative. He also said, “this editing effect of the mirrored image I’ve used in a compilation of experimental shorts and the way it manipulates form and movement patched well with Ben’s woven sonics and a lover’s recollection.”
“A pop gem that showcases Alessi’s hyper-clear and far-reaching vocals,” (Culture Collide) “U” has quickly gained thousands of online streams and received praise from the likes of Hilly Dilly and EQ Music. “The kind of pop that you can’t help but be drawn toward,” (Hilly Dilly) Ben’s sound has been winning over new listeners since the release of his first single, “Primes,” in 2012. Since then, Ben has made a strong impact throughout the music industry with major collaborations, successful featurings including a release with Kuren that is climbing the Australian charts, and an exclusive deal with writer and artist development house, Big House Publishing.
Ben’s inspirations, ranging from Tarantino and Jean Paul Gaultier to Amy Winehouse and Cashmere Cat, are present in all of his artistic abilities. Whether it be through cinematic soundscapes or grandiose melodies, Ben has absorbed the essence of these cultural icons. With his debut EP set to drop early 2017, “U” serves as an introduction to Ben’s use of stunning textures and big room ambiance, leaving us excited to hear more from the talented newcomer.
