Captivating visuals that served as music videos, with vignettes and spoken-word pieces in between made up the 50-minute film directed by Beyoncé, Melina Matsoukas, Mark Romanek, Khalil Joseph, Jonas Akerlund, Dikayl Rimmasch, and Todd Tourso.
LEMONADE mainly revolves around the theme of a scorned Beyoncé trying to deal with infidelity issues. While no name is mentioned, it is believed she is referring to husband Jay Z, who in recent years allegedly cheated on his wife.
Serena Williams, Zendaya, actress Amandla Stenberg, and supermodel Winnie Harlow all appear in different scenes, while Beyoncé’s father Matthew Knowles pops up in a tender moment with Blue Ivy Carter. Bey’s mother Tina Knowles and husband Richard Lawson appear in a scene dedicated to symbolism of love, and in one of the more eye-opening moments of LEMONADE, the mothers of police brutality victims Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin and Walter Scott are seen seated holding photos of their slain sons.
In the end, the film returns to Beyoncé and her husband Jay Z who makes an appearance. By his wife’s side, the CEO-rapper consoles his significant other, as their daughter Blue Ivy is seen smiling and enjoying the outdoors.
Available exclusively on TIDAL, Beyoncé’s 6th solo album features appearances by The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, James Blake, and Jack White. Just Blaze, Diplo, Mike WiLL Made-It, Hit-Boy, and more. Stream the 12 songs by clicking here as the film can be watched at HBO GO.
