Archaeologist Zahai Hawass calls Beyonce rude and reportedly removes her from the sightseeing tour.
Archaeologist Zahai Hawass recently said that he removed Beyonce from a sightseeing tour on ancient Egyptian grounds.
In an interview with The Independent, Hawass said that Beyonce was late to the tour, according to allhiphop.com.
“She came late,” Hawass said. “I said ‘You have to say I’m sorry I’m late.’ But she didn’t open her mouth.”
Hawass said that he removed Beyonce from the tour after a dispute over photography.
“I brought a photographer and she also had a photographer and a guard,” Hawass said. “When my photographer started to shoot, he said, ‘No, Stop. I am the one who says yes or no, not you.’ I said, ‘In that case since you almost hit my photographer and you are not polite…Out. I am not giving you the privilege of having you on my tour.’ I said Beyonce was stupid and I left.”
Hawass has reportedly faced criticism in the past.
According The Egypt Independent, Hawass has been removed from his position as the Minister of Antiquities in Egypt after facing allegations of corruption. The United States has also reportedly been investigating National Geographic due to its relationship with Hawass, who was reportedly paid $80,000 to $200,000 a year by the publication, as per independent.co.uk. Hawass denied these allegations of bribery from National Geographic. “No one can bribe me,” he said, as per independent.co.uk. “I’m the most famous Egyptologist.”
In April, Jay Z and Beyonce faced criticism for a trip to Havana, Cuba. Although the trip was reportedly licensed by the US Treasury Department, the couple was criticized for it due to the United States’ history and relations with Cuba. Two members of congress reportedly investigated the trip as well. President Obama joked about controversy surrounding the trip at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. “I’ve got ninety-nine problems and now Jay Z’s one,” President Obama said at the event.
