Beyonce’s New Album Sold 80,000 Copies In 3 Hours

beyonce2Beyonce’s self-titled album sold over 80k in its first few hours.

Jay Z hit us with some #NewRules earlier this year, but with the surprise launch of her self-titled album, Beyonce has introduced some #NewerRules– and they’re certainly working in her favor. Within the first 3 hours of hitting iTunes last night, queen Bey’s new effort managed to move over 80,000 copies.

With the decision to release the project on a Thursday night, rather than the standard Tuesday morning, the album will only have three full days counted for the Billboard 200 charts. Nevertheless, at the rate she’s going, Bey will still have a lock on the number one spot, already moving half of the projected number for Garth Brooks box set released this week.

We’ll have to wait and see if the pace continues; if so, it could surpass her highest selling debut week; 2006′ B’day which moved 541,000.

[Update: First Week Sales Projections Are High]

Unsurprisingly, the sales predictions for Beyonce’s new self titled visual album are quite high. The project sold more than 430,000 digital units in the first 24 hours of its release, and is estimated to sell approximately 600,000 before the deadline, which would place her at No. 1 on next week’s Billboard 200.

If the predictions prove true, this will be her biggest debut week since her 2006 album B’Day, which sold 541,000 copies in its first week. Stay tuned for the final numbers.
