Black Thought – Rest In Power (Trayvon Martin Tribute)

Black Thought

Jay-Z isn’t the only hip-hop legend involved in the upcoming documentary series Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story; Black Thought has been tapped to create the title track, “Rest In Power,” which reflects on Trayvon’s death and legacy in a way only Black Thought can. Today, he’s sharing the song’s accompanying video, which pairs shots of The Roots MC in NYC’s Gotham Hall with powerful images from the documentary. The video was directed by Rohan Blair-Mangat (Jay-Z “Bam, dvsn “Too Deep”).

Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story premieres July 30 on Paramount Network.

“I wanted to write something that somehow addressed a broader issue and addressed American tradition, and how for so many generations this same sort of thing has been taking place,” Black Thought says. “It reintroduces the information to those of us who were already following the case and were already informed, but it also reintroduces it to a new demographic who just totally didn’t know. This was 2012, thousands of years in the past with regards to the way we receive information now.”
