Break Down On Drake’s New Single“Summer Sixteen”. (Meek Mill & Tory Lanez Diss).
OVO Sound Radio returned to Beats 1 today with their second episode of the new year. While episode 13 featured guests DJ Mustard and The Cozy Boys (who premiered new music from A$AP Rocky, A$AP Mob and Ty Dolla $ign), today’s episode was conducted by none other than Drake and Oliver El-Khatib (together as October Firm) alongside a takeover by Majid Jordan.
During the episode, Drizzy premiered brand new music, including Nas’ remix of Future’s “March Madness” and a new remix from Roy Woods. But the obvious highlight of the show was the world premiere of Drake’s latest track, “Summer Sixteen.”
On the Boi-1da, Noah “40” Shebib, and Cuebeatz-produced banger, the 6 God has more ammo for Meek Mill.
“I let the diss record drop, you were standing right below me, nigga,” Drake raps. “We must have played it a hundred times, you was going to bed / Why would I put on a vest I expect you to aim for the head? / I coulda killed you the first time / You don’t have to try to say it louder nigga / We could hear you the first time / It’s nothing personal I would have done it to anyone.”
The first line is in reference to the rumor that Drake copped a hotel room above Meek’s before dropping “Back to Back.” Something, the Philly rapper seemingly confirms and responds to on his own diss record, “War Pain.”
“Location, Toronto,” Meek states on the intro. “Them chumps right upstairs, they know not to come up here playing no real niggas.”
Listening to Meek’s diss—which dropped almost immediately after Drake—there’s just too many coincidental lines to not think Meek had heard “Summer Sixteen” prior, somehow. He brings up the hotel story on the intro. He directly responds to Drake’s “Use to wanna be on Roc-A-Fella, then I turned into Jay” line. And he even calls Drake out for dissing Tory Lanez—which the whole second verse is pretty much dedicated to.
“All you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little,” raps Drake. “All your ex’s know I like my O’s with a V in the middle / You would love it if I went away or didn’t say nothing else / How am I keeping it real by keeping this shit to myself?”
I’m sure this isn’t the end of it, so be prepared for more. Until then, you can stream “Summer Sixteen” below and cop it on iTunes.
