Singer and YouTube sensation Chunkz has unveiled the official video to his debut solo single ‘Vibranium’, out 16th June on Island Records.
The visuals see Chunkz in a number of humorous, self-deprecating situations, such as unsuccessfully lifting weights in the gym and trying and failing to cook up a tasty meal for friends. Directed by Ray Fiasco, the video features some familiar faces and fellow influencers, such as Michael Dapaah, Stevo The Madman, Prince Rene Young, Neji and The Darkest Man.
A confident vocal debut, the track is an infectious slice of tropical afrobeats, and was created by Chunkz and friend Neji, who flew in from Michigan for just 24 hours to make sure he featured in the video. It comes in the wake of Chunkz winning ‘Best Entertainer’ at the Somali International Awards 2018, finishing ahead of BAFTA-winning actor Barkhad Abdi and singer-songwriter Cherrie.
Chunkz says of the track – “I loved working on this track, sometimes it’s about bringing summer island vibes to the winter and that’s what I wanted to do. Working with Neji and the producer on this was sick as they knew the vibe and it just clicked. I’m out here looking for my vibranium so let me try get my peoples in the UK to do the same”
Chunkz’ loyal following has been growing and growing since he started vlogging on his YouTube channel in 2015. Fan meetups early in his career would see crowds of over 200 turning up, suggesting it wasn’t long until he’d start making serious waves. By late 2017 his channel was growing at an exponential rate, leading to partnerships with notable brands like Nike, EA Sports, Apple and Puma, plus collaborations with some of YouTube’s biggest names, including KSI and Michael Dapaah.
He follows friend, collaborator and now labelmate Michael Dapaah in making the transition from YouTuber to musician. He performed the role of Asznee in the video for Big Shaq’s 2017 viral phenomenon ‘Man’s Not Hot’, a role he reprised for the follow up ‘Man Don’t Dance’. The two videos have a combined total views of over 325 million.
With such an impressive debut behind him, support from Island Records and his 700k+ followers on social media, 2019 is looking very bright for this multifaceted young artist.
