Perched at his MacBook and MPK, the Bronx-born, Harlem-raised producer explains how he flipped the B.T. Express sample, the importance of the breakdown sequence in the beat, and how “Get at Me Dog” went from a freestyle on a DJ Clue tape to a Tunnel banger and Billboard smash.

In spite of the song’s success, Dame Grease didn’t produce “Get at Me Dog” with mass appeal in mind. “I didn’t actually make the song for it be a commercial hit,” he says. “I made it just to kill and body the streets.” That it did.
