DMX Released From Prison After Serving One-Year Sentence

DMX is a free man. The Ruff Ryders rapper was released from federal prison on Friday morning (Jan. 25) after serving a one-year sentence for tax evasion. TMZ reports was released early from Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution in West Virginia. The often troubled artist was originally slated to be free on Sunday (Jan. 27) but was released two days early. There is a federal policy in place that allows inmates to be freed early if their release date falls on a weekend.

DMX now has to pay $2.3 million in restitution and has been ordered to enter substance abuse and mental health programs. The rapper, real name Earl Simmons, is planning to drop an album and reportedly has various book deals and a biopic to help pay off the debt. Ski Mask the Slump God was one artist who eagerly tweeted he wanted to work with Dark Man X, meanwhile TMZ posted the first photo of DMX with his kids on Friday.
