TMZ reports prosecutors were pushing for a harsh sentence of 5 years. The judge eventually decided to give Dark Man X 1-year, plus 3 years of supervised release. Back in November of last year, DMX entered a guilty plea to one count of tax evasion, as part of a deal his attorneys struck with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He was originally facing 14 counts and 44 years in prison, for allegedly engaging in a “multi-year scheme” to prevent from paying around $1.7 million in taxes from the IRS.

During the sentencing on Wednesday (Mar. 28), DMX addressed the judge taking responsibility for his actions. The Ruff Ryder’s lawyer, Murray Richman, also played the rapper’s music video for “Slippin’” in an NYC courtroom, to display the struggles and tough life DMX has lived.
