Drake’s “IYRTITL” Is the Highest Selling Digital Album of 2015
Drake stays winning! According to the official SoundScan report for the first three quarters of 2015, the most illegally downloaded artist this year is the also the man behind the top selling digital album since January 1st.
Album sales in general might continue to fall, partly due to the popularity of the streaming service platforms which have almost doubled their numbers since last year with streams totaling over 230 billion through the first nine months of 2015, but the digital album sales are down less than one percent from 2014.
As you might have already guessed, the top selling digital album of the year thus far is Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. The Canadian rapper’s surprise LP has surpassed Taylor Swift’s 1989 which is the overall top selling project of the year with just over 2.4 million copies sold. As for the top single of the year, Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” is far ahead with over 5 million units sold since its release.
