Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers LP 2” Goes Platinum

eminemEminem’s new album has already achieved platinum status, while J. Cole’s single hits gold.

In a matter of just two weeks, Eminem’s new album MMLP2 has already been certified platinum.

The album sold 792,000 units opening week, so it’s not that surprising that he’s now reach 1 million. He’s sold approximately 1,003,000 copies, and will drop to #2 on the Billboard 200 this week.

On a related note, J. Cole’s “Crooked Smile” single went gold, selling 500,000 copies. Cole previously said Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” gave him hope that “Crooked Smile” could be a similarly huge single– aka played on the radio 24/7 and 5x platinum. Perhaps he’s on his way there.

Congrats to both Marshall and Jermaine!
