Originally from Peckham, South London, the 28-year-old artist was raised in a Nigerian household and spent two transformative years immersed in the vibrant tapestry of New York City. Gabzy’s rich cultural background seamlessly blends Alte, R&B, and Afro influences, shaping him into the multifaceted artist he is today. His musical journey began at the age of 9, singing in the school choir, and continued through his teenage years as he explored diverse styles and sounds. While attending university, Gabzy was signed to a US record label and relocated to New York, driven by ambition and dreams of stardom, only to face frustration and contemplation of abandoning his music career after two challenging years.
However, a turning point came with the collaborative EP, “Summers,” alongside Nigerian artist Melvitto, whom he met and collaborated with in New York. The success of the “Summers” project catapulted Gabzy into the spotlight, garnering a dedicated fan base with 2.4 million monthly listeners in the UK and beyond. Gabzy then unveiled his debut solo EP, “Malone,” a stellar release that paved the way for a triumphant headline show at North London’s prestigious Islington Assembly Hall, selling out within seconds.
