Legendary music executive, producer, and visionary Irv Gotti has passed away at the age of 54. The tragic news was confirmed on February 4, though the cause of death has not yet been reported. Gotti had battled health issues in recent years, including multiple strokes and diabetes-related complications.

Born Irving Lorenzo Jr., the Queens native played a pivotal role in shaping hip-hop and R&B in the ‘90s and early 2000s. He was instrumental in launching the careers of Ja Rule, Ashanti, DMX, and JAY-Z, helping bring talent to Def Jam Records before founding Murder Inc. Records, later rebranded as The Inc. Under his leadership, the label delivered countless hits, collaborating with artists like Jennifer Lopez, Christina Milian, Alicia Keys, and Eve.

Despite legal challenges in the mid-2000s, Gotti remained a force in the industry, later relaunching Murder Inc. under his new label Visionary in partnership with 300 Entertainment. He also made his mark in television with the BET series Tales, an innovative anthology turning hip-hop lyrics into cinematic storytelling.

Irv Gotti’s impact on music and culture is undeniable. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans worldwide.
