Lex Luger Discusses “Watch The Throne” Collaboration With Kanye West & Jay-Z

Lex chops it up on his own YouTube account, shares information about his work and relationship with Kanye West and Jay-Z.

Suffolk, Virginia producer Lex Luger, who worked with Kanye West and Jay-Z for Watch the Throne, recently spoke about his work with the duo. “I never heard the song,” he said of his submission for “H.A.M.” in a video he released for his fans on his own YouTube account. “I couldn’t hear the song until everybody else heard the song.”

Although kept in the dark about the final version of the song, Luger was able to work with Kanye West, a person he had much praise for in his video.

“I can’t really explain it, but [Kanye West] is a perfectionist,” he noted before adding that West had an orchestra replay portions of the beat. “He likes to go way above. He’s a crazy guy, but he’s fire. He’s fire.”

The collaboration, according to Luger, went beyond the song “H.A.M.” as he recalls the two had a conversation about beat making that lasted a couple of hours.

“[Kanye West] called me,” he remembers in the video. “I didn’t know who I was talking to for about 30 minutes. He was talking about beats and stuff. Then, I thought about who it really was and I was like, ‘Oh, shit.’ Then, we started talking more. We talked for about two hours. The whole time, he was saying he wanted me to fly out there but I didn’t really want to do it because I felt he was trying to take my time but I did and it turned out good.”
