Hugo Valentine shares his fourth single “All I Want.”
Dishing out his first offering of 2020 which is filled with melodies, feel-good chords and sensitive lyrics, Hugo Valentine’s “All I Want” ooze’s sentiment and depth.
In a world overwhelmed with technology, Hugo Valentine’s plea is simple; more genuine, authentic, real-life human connection and less looking down at a screen. Call him old fashioned if you will, but Hugo’s beautifully written tune holds a simple yet important message and one we could all take something away from.
Etched with perfectly played piano throughout, Hugo Valentine also entwines his quintessentially British sound into the seams of his songwriting. Citing his influences as Tom Odell, Elton John, Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay to name but a few, he manages to combine these into his very own brand of pop music.
Speaking on the songwriting process, Hugo lets us into an extra special secret, which adds to the finesse of this tune:
“This song was in fact the first I worked on with producer Henrik Fossum. Everything fell together pretty naturally – we used a number of my original samples to retain some of the feel, and the vibe this song brought to the studio made it a really special one to work on. Though other tracks have since been recorded on a grand piano, this one was done on a beautiful, mellow upright that happened to reside in the studio where we were working at the time. The piano tone somehow gives it a really nostalgic feel which was not something we expected – unassuming beauty. We went back to that studio one day some months later only to find that the studio had closed down and all its contents had gone. The remaining shell of the building was an eerie sight and has really stuck with me. Now whenever I listen to the record, I get this strange sensation that the sound is ‘locked away’ in time – irretrievable.”
