Janelle Monae is back with a bang on her new track “Float,” which features the sounds of Egypt 80 and Nigerian singer Seun Kuti.
The Grammy-nominated singer’s debut single in over five years has her belting about her carefree lifestyle to a throwback production by Nana Kwabena, Nate “Rocket” Wonder, and Sensei Bueno.
A resounding “No, I’m not the same/ The way I feel about myself has changed, I suppose. You’re looking at something that’s not the same. Used to come in with my head down, but now I just glide in, as do all of my… and all of this… and everything else.
Janelle Monae’s “Float” is the first new music since her album Dirty Computer dropped in 2018. Her songs “Turntables” (2020) and “Stronger” (2021) may be found on the soundtracks of the documentaries “All In: The Fight for Democracy” (Amazon Studios, 2020) and “We the People” (Netflix, 2021).
