Tim Westwood unearths a never-before-heard freestyle from Jay Z in 1999.
Some of the GOAT freestyles of all time have been spat in the booth of famed London DJ Tim Westwood. This year, young faces such as Mick Jenkins, Tory Lanez, and Vince Staples have given Westwood memorable sessions, but today, the don DJ has gone into the vaults and unearthed a true classic — a 1999 recording of Jay Z going off the top for 4 minutes.
At the time, Hov was almost 30 years old — though he sounds even younger — and later that year, he would go on to drop Vol. 3… Life and Times of Sean Carter, which contained classics like “Big Pimpin.” He spits with the raw energy of someone who knows he’s making history, and, indeed, this treasure from the Westwood vaults is something all hip-hop fans can appreciate.
