JAY-Z has released a previously unheard remix of his smash single “Empire State of Mind” that features the late jazz great Gil Scott-Heron.
The remix, titled “New York (Concept de Paris),” is a combination of “Empire State of Mind,” a song by JAY and Alicia Keys in 2009, and “New York Is Killing Me,” a hit by Gil Scott Heron in 2010.
Sampled from The Moments’ “Love On a Two-Way Street” (1970 single), “Empire State of Mind” first appeared on JAY-Z’s Blueprint 3 and was produced by Al Shux. The song went platinum and won two Grammys, including Best Rap Song and Best Rap Collaboration.
Following JAY’s exclusive performance at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris over the weekend for the Basquiat x Warhol exhibition, the song “New York (Concept de Paris)” has been published. Tiffany & Co. sponsors the Painting Four Hands show.
