Jay-Z’s deal with NFL where he promises to be involved in the “Inspire Change” initiative and co-produce the Super Bowl halftime show, has been a controversial one.
The heavy debate online was then fueled by a report that Jay-Z had once advised Jermaine Dupri not to do a deal with the league in wake of the Atlanta producer-rapper trying to put together some shows in Atlanta in the lead-up to this year’s Super Bowl 53. After JD’s friend Brian Michael Cox claimed it, Funk Flex had tweeted a confirmation that Hov did in fact told JD that going ahead with such a deal was “not a good idea.”
But now speaking himself for the first time on the situation, Jermaine says the whole thing has been blown out of proportion and that Jay-Z never told him not to do a deal with the NFL. In an interview with Big Tigger on Atlanta’s V-103 radio station, JD clears it up for us: “.. and today on the Big Tigger show, I’m speaking and letting the people know, he and I never had a conversation where he told me ‘don’t do what you’re doing’,” he said while sitting along Brian Michael Cox in the studio.
“What our conversation was ‘you know what side I’m on, I understand what you’re doing’. That’s what the conversation was,” he continued to further elaborate on the situation.
He also made sure to explain how his situation about 6 months ago was different from the deal that Jay-Z has done, adding that he was only putting together some shows for his city but still came under heavy fire from critics. He went on to defend Jay-Z and support the view that you have to get involved in something if you want to make a change. Watch the full interview below.
