Jords & Lil Sykes Drops Fire New Song “Drill Vs Grime” — Watch

Rapper Jords, originally from South East London, is back with a fresh new tune called “Drill Vs Grime,” which will be included on his next album, due out later this spring. Now, pay attention.

The concept for “Drill Vs. Grime” was hatched in January 2022, when Jords and Lil Sykes got together to talk about the intricacies of grime and drill, as well as the development of music over generations. Jords helped ZDot with the production of “Drill vs. Grime” after the two of them had written their 16-bar verses on the same night. “I taught them both the ins and outs of making a proper grime track; the end result had to be a blend of the two styles,” he says.

Jords deftly creates a synthesis between the two genres, from the top hats that give UK drill its worldwide fame to the dark and brazen persona that has come to characterise grime. As he explains, “Drill vs. Grime” is meant to be a political statement. This is a proclamation of purpose, appetite, and ardour. The fact that Sykes and I went to school together makes our achievement all the more meaningful; it demonstrates our abilities and our dedication to the cause. That’s not why you’ll find me here; I’m not the good guy. Greatness is what I want to produce here.

The visual representation of this claim of “greatness” can be seen on “Drill vs. Grime,” which was directed by up-and-coming black filmmaker Sau Ali and whose concept was developed in collaboration with Jords. The documentary’s raw, strong, and joyful manner, with a conversational undertone, makes for an engaging and original watching experience.

To celebrate the release of ‘Drill Vs Grime’ Jords announced a live free show for all his fans at the Music Box in LCCM 15th March. Stay tuned as more shows to be announced soon…..
