Kanye West Plans to Return His Share of Masters to G.O.O.D. Music Artists

Kanye West making his contracts with Universal Music and the associated labels public has sparked a lot of conversation in the past few days.

When Kanye made the contract available for everybody to see, some folks on social media interpreted that Jay-Z sold off Kanye’s masters so that he could buy back his own. That speculation was shut down by Kanye last week. However, one argument that some fans had was that Kanye himself is the owner of a label, G.O.O.D. Music and has several artists signed to him.

So a common question was whether Kanye will practice what he is trying to preach with his own contract with Universal Music Group. Today, the rap mogul revealed on Twitter that he is returning his share of the masters that he holds of his artists. “I’m giving all Good music artist back the 50% share I have of their masters,” he simply tweeted.

The exact meaning in terms of numbers is not clear here but we’re assuming it means the he giving back the 50% he holds to his artists. The current roster of the Def Jam-distributed label includes Big Sean, who scored a #1 album on Billboard 200 this week, Pusha T, Teyana Taylor, 070 Shake and Cyhi The Prynce among others.

Sean has already reacted to ‘Ye’s announcement, writing, “Thank you!!! This would help so much.”
