Yesterday, September 24th, New York City’s Great Lawn at Central Park organized the fifth annual Global Citizen music Festival, which was established in 2012 by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
The event was created with the long-term goal to see the end of extreme poverty by 2030, with Chris Martin manning the role of “current creative director of the event” in 2015, and plans for him to remain in that role for the next 15 years, after partnering with the “Global Poverty Project CEO Hugh Evans, the festival’s creative director Richard Curtis, and Amina J. Mohammed, UN special advisor of the secretary-general on Post-2015 Development Planning.”
Yesterday’s main performers included Major Lazer, Metallica, Usher, Ellie Goulding, Cat Stevens, Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar — with the latter bringing an infectious energy with him.
