Nominations for the 2019 Oscars were announced on Tuesday morning (Jan. 22), revealed by Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross during a live stream conducted by The Academy. Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s powerful “All the Stars” collaboration received a nomination for ‘Original Song.’ The record served as the lead single off last year’s Black Panther: The Album, the Top Dawg Entertainment curated soundtrack in support of Marvel’s Black Panther film.
The first-time nominees will face off against Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, Jennifer Hudson’s “I’ll Fight” from RBG, Emily Blunt’s “The Place Where Lost Goes” from Mary Poppins Returns, and Willie Watson and Tim Blake Nelson’s “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs For Wings” from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The 91st Academy Awards broadcasts live on Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
