After experiencing writer’s block and imposter syndrome following his last EP, the artistic rapper Kwoli Black makes his re-entrance with his powerful new single ‘Greatness’ featuring Juvenal Máze. Influenced by a variety of distinctly UK sounds, the captivating track tells a story of affirmation, proclamation and confirmation.
Dialing up the intensity with a grime-esque flow, Kwoli stays true to his genre-bending nature, mixing elements of garage with Máze’s summer-ready R&B chorus reminiscent of Shakka. The track encapsulates everything great about the UK artist in its self-assured lyricism and top-tier production by JSTRINGS.
Speaking on his release, Kwoli writes “The thought process behind it was to make a song that contrasted the mood of my previous EP. I’m a rapper that likes the more downbeat vibes, the love songs, the pensive tunes, similarly to Drake, Westside Boogie, A2 etc. So I wanted to show that I can also bring the energy, the bars and the vibes.”
Hailing from Hackney and residing in Essex, Kwoli Black fully embraces his affinity to being alternative. After an amateur attempt at making music in 2017 with multiple hiatuses, he returned in 2021 with a run of critically acclaimed singles and a “debut” EP ‘Call Me When It’s Over’ supported by Wordplay, Mixtape Madness, Nu Print Magazine and more.
Now, Kwoli sets his sights on expanding his reach and showing off more of his eclectic nature. Whether it’s thought-provoking, tugging at heartstrings, or creating a vibe, Kwoli doesn’t disappoint and rarely misses.
