Lil’ Pump caused controversy towards the end of 2018 after posting a preview of his new single, “Butterfly Doors.” In a video uploaded to his Instagram, the Miami rapper can be heard saying the line “smokin’ on dope, they call me Yao Ming cause my eyes real low (ching chong).” The line caught the attention of Asian-American artist/actress Awkwafina, who called out the “Gucci Gang” star for his use of the racial slur, where he’s also seen doing a derogatory gesture by stretching his eyes. Pump apologized following the backlash, and now drops the record and its flashy music video. In both the official video and the song thats now out on iTunes and all streaming services, the derogatory line has been censored out.
