J. Lo, Camila Cabello, Fat Joe, Joell Ortiz and Lin-Manuel Miranda team up for Puerto Rico.
Hamilton writer Lin-Manuel Miranda gathers a star-studded cast for a greater cause, in support of Puerto Rico. Storm-ravaged and devastated in recent weeks by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, the island has failed to see support by U.S President Donald Trump. As many continue to speak out against the Trump and his neglect towards Puerto Rico, Miranda turns a negative into positive to help his father’s homeland. The song “Almost Like Praying” is an uplifting and inspirational song, that features various artists of Puerto Rican descent. Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello, Fat Joe, Joell Ortiz, Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony, and Luis Fonsi headline the lineup.
“I wrote this song the day after the hurricane hit Puerto Rico. And one, we realized this storm was the worst storm to hit the island in modern history, and its name was Maria. And that’s the name of my favorite song from West Side Story. So I thought, how can I flip that negative connotation into something [positive] for Puerto Rico?,” says Miranda in an interview with Billboard.
Out now on iTunes, all proceeds from the song will benefit hurricane relief efforts via the Hispanic Federation’s Unidos Disaster Relief Fund. To make a donation click here and hear “Almost Like Praying” below.
