Link Up TV Originals have been working diligently behind the scenes to deliver an exciting, new, music competition series – The Process.
To launch Season One, who better to set the pace than Godfather of UK Drill, LD. After a spell away LD is looking to reaffirm his position as a Drill all-time great and has enlisted the help of Fumez The Engineer who is unquestionably the genre’s biggest advocate.
Presented by Capital Xtra’s Rob Bruce, the 2-episode series will see 6 hungry but highly talented contestants go head-to-head for the unique opportunity to work with LD and propel themselves into the next level of their careers.
Our 6 young contestants are made up of 3 producers and 3 directors. Their task? To create a hit new single, followed by an epic official video. It will be a “battle of the beats” for the 3 producers who must identify a suitable one for LD to tear up. Meanwhile, our directors must first deliver a detailed pitch, breaking down their visual concepts and hope to be awarded the winning budget. Then there’s the small task of actually bringing the visuals to life – no pressure, eh?
After putting out a call across Link Up TV’s social media channels the production team received a mammoth response of over 500 willing participants. Music producers and video directors from within the UK and Europe were eager to take part and it required a team of industry experts; experienced A&Rs combined with veteran directors to whittle the numbers down, shortlisting the top 15 in each category.
These lucky individuals were then interviewed online by the Link Up TV team to find out some more information about their background, along with letting them know more about the concept of the show and filming schedule.
Episode 1
Making the Hit
To kick start The Process, LD hits the studio with Fumez The Engineer hoping to pick the perfect instrumental for his new track.
Joined by the 3 producer contestants, each has 3 chances to play an instrumental they feel will accommodate LD’s distinctive sound. Only one can progress to the next stage so understanding his musical identity is crucial.
With a chance of a lifetime at stake for all of the contestants, LD and Fumez delibirate over who is the best candidate, working with the winning producer to record, mix and master the final track.
Episode 2
Making the Video
A successful single release requires a captivating visual to support it. With the track now recorded, we welcome our video directors to The Process. They now have just 48 hours to take in the audio and exercise all their creativity to fully utilise a £3,000 budget which is up for grabs. The video treatment not only has to appeal to LD, but it has to make sense economically – location, props, models and production all have to be factored. With the clock ticking, these budding young visual artists must figure out a way to sell their concept for a chance to add LD’s name to their list of credits.
In this episode, LD consults with leading music video director, Gabriella Kingsley (ArrDee, Ed Sheeran + MORE,) when considering the pitches. Our contestants are called in individually to receive honest and extensive feedback before we find out who will be chosen.
Once the budget has been awarded, it is then down to the winning contestant to implement their vision, with the second half of the episode focusing on the entire video shoot process. Our winner must navigate all the real-life challenges of a high-pressured shoot day and deal with any obstacles that may arise.

”Showcasing emerging talent has always been the lifeblood of what we do.
The Process is simply our latest effort to shine a light on the hidden gems of our scene. It’s been said that “luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”.
This is precisely the access we have given our contestants – the unique chance to change the trajectory of their careers and transform their lives! All they have to do is seize the moment and catapult themselves to success using this exciting new platform.
Without the incredible talent of up and coming music producers and directors, trailblazing sounds like UK Drill, do not rise to prominence. It’s time to allow these creatives to take centre stage and share their ability with the masses, finally giving fans a closer look at The Process.”
