Lisa Mercedez teams up with vocalist Shy and marks her new found faith with celebratory new single ‘Shahada’
Queen of the UK Dancehall scene, Lisa Mercedez has forged a unique musical path off the back of an eclectic catalogue of releases which showcase her prowess as an mc, lyricist and style icon, incorporating dancehall with other forms of rap, dance, bashment and electro-pop influences. Her reputation as someone who can jump on any beat whilst retaining retain her unique Jamaican flavour has resulted in collabs with Stefflon Don, Stylo G, Ms Banks, DJ SKT and Preditah, paving the way for other female dancehall artists in the UK along the way. She was also personally selected by Nicki Minaj to be her UK tour support.
After announcing the release of a collab with Vybz Kartel entitled Real Love’, Lisa Mercedez is set to share her exciting new single Shahada’. Somewhat of a departure from her trademark sound, Shahada’ represents a shift in perspective as she marks her recent reversion to Islam, celebrating her personal and creative evolution. The atmospheric tracks sees and artist in a fresh creative space, teaming up with Persian vocalist Shy who adds some beautiful vocal flourishes to the dark, piano driven rap track. Lisa delivers bars which riff on her recent journey, using it as a way of expressing her newfound faith. The inspiration behind the track, she explains:
“This track reflects the journey I have been on as an artist and my recent reversion to Islam. Musically I’m still very much a Dancehall Artist, but I make whatever is good and right for me when I’m in the studio, I don’t like to limit myself as a creative.”
