19-year old singer Mahalia is fast becoming a force to reckon with in the UK’s R&B and neo-soul scene.
Back with a follow up to her big debut single “Sober” and “No Pressure” which dropped late last year, Mahalia has teamed up with one of the hardest and most underrated UK rappers in the game Little Simz for her latest one “Proud Of Me”.
Channelling her soulful British vocals and warm tone with Simz’ poetic lyricism, this uplifting gospel-inspired R&B track tells a story of staying true to yourself despite fame and perfectly embodies British R&B at its best.
Mahalia says – “I wrote this tune not long before my Birthday last year. It the first time in my short music career that I had stepped out on my own. I stumbled for a while I think… tried to get my priorities straight. But, once I understood that, everything kind of fell in to place. The one thing I have always said that makes me truly happy is knowing that my family, friends and you guys are proud of what I have achieved. I’ve always wanted to work with Lil Simz. So, this was crazy for me. She gave me all the extra magic that I needed.”
On May 1st, the day of her 20th Birthday, Mahalia will play her biggest London show to date at the Scala. Tickets are available here.
