Megan thee stallion was the star guest performer on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live on Saturday (Oct. 3). The show was hosted by Chris Rock. While she joined Chance the Rapper last year, this marked her first solo performance on the famed 30 Rock stage, and she made the most of the opportunity.
First up, Megan delivered a powerful performance of her hit “Savage.” Backed by four female dancers, she showed off her moves while rapping along to the Beyoncé-assisted remix, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in May. As gunshots rang out, she stopped midway to slam Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, who decided not to pursue any major charges against the police officers responsible for the death of Breonna Taylor.
“Daniel Cameron is no different than the sellout negroes that sold our people into slavery,” said activist Tamika Mallory in one of the clips.
Megan also delivered a powerful message. “We need to protect our Black women, and love our Black women, ’cause at the end of the day, we need our Black women,” she said. “We need to protect our Black men and stand up our Black men, ’cause at the end of the day, we’re tired of seeing hashtags of our Black men.”
She continued with the performance as the words “Protect Black Women” appeared in giant letters on the video screens.
She returned later in the show to perform her brand new single “Don’t Stop” with special guest Young Thug.
Not only did Megan serve as musical guest, she appeared in a skit called “Hello” featuring “SNL” cast members Chris Redd, Pete Davidson, and Kenan Thompson where she rapped about her boyfriend wanting to see what’s under her mask. She also guested in a sketch about women competing to enter the NBA Bubble.
