The network has announced the comeback of MTV Unplugged, the acoustic live performance series that featured legendary sets from the likes of Jay Z and Kurt Cobain. The series has been revived numerous times over the last decade, the most recent being Miley Cyrus’ performance in 2014, but MTV promises to “keep the essential feel of the original series while modernizing to fit the way we watch videos today across multiple platforms.”
Meanwhile, MTV Cribs is also set for a comeback — only you won’t be watching it on your TV. According to Variety, the popular ’00s series that took audiences into the not-so-humble abodes of their favorite celebrities is being revived as a short-form program on Snapchat. Subjects will now be able to guide viewers around their home themselves and speak to them directly through the camera. The reboot is expected to launch in June with Mac Miller, Austin Mahone and Travis Mills on deck for the first round of “episodes.”
As for what’s new, MTV is launching a hip-hop music competition series that aims to “get tomorrow’s top talent in front of the industry’s top dogs — and then getting them signed and into the recording studio,” as well as weekly music and comedy show called Wonderland, featuring live performances from emerging artists and comedians.
