Mychelle Shares New Video for ‘Tightrope’

Mychelle has released a new video for her hit ‘Tightrope.’

‘Tightrope,’ co-produced with Ed Thomas (Jorja Smith, Jacob Banks, SG Lewis, Maverick Sabre), is a lushly-helmed music about what happens when unrequited love reaches epic proportions.

‘Tightrope’ is a bouncy and stunningly-arranged number with organically rich instrumentation that strikes the right balance between being nostalgic yet original and contemporary, evoking the work of classic soul artists like Marvin Gaye and Roberta Flack, while also taking cues from Inflo’s recent output with the seminal Cleo Sol and SAULT.

The accompanying video, created by Thea Gajic (Stormzy, Jords, A2), brilliantly turns the song’s subject matter on its head by emphasising on emotional unavailability in friendships and family rather than romantic love. Mychelle appears in a supporting role as the video’s primary protagonist, a black single parent who is overwhelmed and overwhelmed by all life throws at him. As a result, he finds it difficult to psychologically escape and embrace the love and attention lavished on him on his birthday.

“Myself and the filmmaker wanted a film-like video that could operate by itself showcasing ordinary Black life,” Mychelle remarked of the video’s creative approach.
