Watch Napoleon Da Legend’s “Sacrifice” Video
Brooklyn-by-way-of-DMV rapper Napoleon Da Legend blends fiery, emotionally charged rhymes with stunning visual effects in his new video for “Sacrifice,” the latest single off his upcoming Steal This Mixtape project.
The visuals were shot by renowned French director Stéphane Davi (D12, Kery James). His trademark style is in full effect here, as we see NDL flanked by mind-bending visuals, mirrored images of himself and his heroes (Dalai Lama and Muhammad Ali), and a slick black-and-white ethereal color palette.
It’s the perfect setting for NDL to spit his lyrically rich bars, which he does over Dilla’s “Last Donut of the Night,” one of the more stirring cuts off the late producer’s final opus, Donuts. The Parisian-born MC uses the emotional weight of the instrumental to his advantage, rapping with soul and passion in regards to the sacrifices he’s made for his art: “Started from nothing and my rise was incredible/ Chip on my shoulder, my sacrifice unforgettable.”
Steal This Mixtape features a slew of instrumentals that NDL self-admittedly “stole” from some of his favorite artists. In addition to Dilla, you’ll hear music from Quantic, Madlib, RZA, Onra, Buckwild, and many more, along with speeches from Martin Luther King and Marcus Garvey, among others.
