Nas Honored with W.E.B. DU BOIS medal at Harvard.

Nasirs Jones made history last night! The veteran emcee added another feat to his incredible legacy as he was honored with the W.E.B. DuBois Medal during a ceremony at Harvard University, according to the Associated Press.

Historic night for the rap game. At the Hutchins Center Honors for the W. E. B. Du Bois Medal ceremony. This is a first for the Rap Game to receive this award but, definitely not the last. Thank you. #HarvardHistory,” he wrote on Instagram.

Becoming the first rapper to receive it, Nas was presented with the award for his involvement and contributions to culture, human rights, and the arts central to the African and African-American community. He joined the likes of Muhammad Ali, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, and Marian Wright Edelman who’s the founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund.

Back in July 2013, Nas partnered with Harvard and established The Nasir Jones Hip-Hop Fellowship, which aims to fund scholars and artists who demonstrate exceptional, productive scholarship and creative ability in the arts as they relate to the genre.
