G-Unit’s 50 Cent appears to be ready to part ways with popular social networking website Twitter, announcing plans to leave his 8 million followers in the near future.
Although he did not specify a final day, Fif alerted his followers early Monday (October 15) morning.
“? i get attacked all day on here SKRT @ExoticStellz: Why is @50cent so rude for? He’s such a nice guy on TV lol but on twitter,” 50 tweeted Monday.
“I’m leaving twitter soon you guys are going to have to find another way to get followers. SMSaudio”
“I’m not reading or retweeting any tweets that don’t have #SK Or #SMSaudio at the end.”
“I don’t see anything to read or retweet. No #SK, #SMSaudio .” (50 Cent’s Twitter)
Some sites have speculated his decision stems from a controversial Twitter exchange.
The ‘New Day’ rapper is an avid tweeter and is currently on a mission to promote his Street King energy drink and his SMS Audio headphone range. However, after going on a tweeting spree for most of yesterday, it seems Fiddy is ready to hang up his 140 characters and turn his back on the social networking site – but not before sending vicious messages to his followers. “No,you kill your self.U look like you got all kinda STD’s #SK RT @_xoGoddess: @50cent i shuld kill you,” Fiddy wrote to one user. When Fiddy later quoted “one of his best verses”, another Twitter user replied: Zzzzz”. The rapper then replied: “Get your fat a*s off my time line.” (Pop Dash)
Back in 2010, G-Unit’s DJ Whoo Kid revealed what triggered Fif’s Twitter addiction.
“I think he got the new iPhone and they put the [Twitter] app on there. And then [Tony] Yayo was talking about ‘go on’ and he just started wildin’ out. Once he saw how easy it was, that was it. Because before, he had a Blackberry, he didn’t really care too much about going online. Whatever he needed to promote, he had somebody promoting it. But now he has it in the palm of his hands, and he’s going bezerk. He cursed me out on there like twice. I’m like a f*cking human punching bag on Twitter. But it’s all good because the more they curse me out, the more followers I get…This is like a nightmare now that he has 3 million followers, and I’m assuming he’s trying to break the 5 million follower capacity. But making him mad and he has Twitter is a nightmare , so I would suggest not to go at him too tough. Leave him alone. Because basically whatever he says on Twitter, everybody knows.” (VIBE)
50 previously tried to explain his revamped interest in social networking.
“You know what’s interesting? I look at that platform as another place to express yourself in a different way, to entertain,” he said in an interview. “Not necessarily to create a perception of your actual character, but to be entertaining. When other people used it, it was boring because they were trying to be safe, be politically correct. They gave you the presentation they were taught to give you after they were prepped for publicity. What I gave you was some of the things I’ve seen that were entertaining topic-wise — things that made me laugh. I think it’s healthy to smile. Even though I may have the persona as one of the darkest people in hip-hop culture, you seen me smile as often as — probably more often as — somebody you seen placed in that category.” (MTV)
