Cassidy says he used to give Meek Mill advice on rhymes, but that the MMG rapper changed after signing his deal.
The beef between two of Philly’s finest, Meek Mill and Cassidy has been building for a minute, after a misunderstood challenge was followed by an exchange on Twitter and then ultimately the two exchanging diss records. Now in an interview, Cassidy says the beef is nothing personal, and he was just using the diss track as a way of putting Mill on blast, as he felt the rapper, who at one time would call him for advice on lyrics, has changed since signing with MMG.
Talking about he current beef with his one time PA ally, Cass says,”It’s not personal beef. I don’t wanna see anything happen to him or anybody around him. I’m just competitive and I take my music seriously,” adding, “I didn’t wanna make it a real beef or anything like that. I felt like if we had anything to say to each other, we could put it in a rap battle and prove to the streets who’s really the best, who really run the city that we’re both from and who’s qualified to be talking crazy.”
Later in his interview with MTV, Cassidy says that at one time Meek used to call his cell asking for help with rhymes, but since he signed with Rozay’s crew he’s been giving Cass the cold shoulder, “He used to call my phone all the time, asking me to hear his music. I actually used to help him write his raps and give him information back in the day, but ever since he got his deal, things changed.” The Philly rapper goes onto say, “He stopped calling me, stopped communicating, stopped doing records together — it’s like he was a whole different type of person. I reached out a couple times, I don’t know if he was just busy or if he just changed, but it wasn’t exactly the same as before he [got a deal].”
Cassidy insists this is not what prompted his “Me, Myself, and iPhone” diss record, “That’s not the reason this battle thing came about, but at the end of the day, I do feel as though it’s not how it used to be before he got on.”
