Hov’s branching out in more ways than one.
Jay-Z‘s been expanding his business horizons as of late, most recently expressing interest in signing NHL prospect Seth Jones to his new Roc Nation Sports agency, randomly enough. Now, as reported by HipHopDX, it turns out he was an executive producer for director Terence Nance’s “An Oversimplification Of Her Beauty,” which premieres in New York City this week. Hov shared executive production responsibilities with journalist Dream Hampton, comedian Wyatt Cenac and actress Joy Bryant. This foray into film is new territory for the veteran emcee.
From the official YouTube description: “With arresting insight, vulnerability, and a delightful sense of humor, the film documents the relationship between Terence (Nance) and a lovely young woman (Namik Minter) as it teeters on the divide between platonic and romantic. Utilizing a tapestry of live action and multiple styles of animation, the film blurs the line between narrative, documentary, and experimental film as it explores the fantasies, emotions, and memories that race through Terence’s mind as he examines and re-examines a singular moment in time.”
The film includes original music from Los Angeles rapper/producer Flying Lotus, and has already been praised by the New York Daily News and The New Yorker. The NYC premiere takes place this weekend, and the film will run at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center and Manhattan’s Cinema Village from April 26 to May 2.
