Maybach Music Group rapper Meek Mill has revealed getting some tough love courtesy of rap mogul Jay-Z, admitting Young Hov did not like one of his Dreams & Nightmares tracks.
According to Meek, Jigga did not censor his opinion when previewing the upcoming debut.
Jay isn’t a yes-man, however, and in an effort to assist the “I’ma Boss” rapper on his debut, the veteran MC had no problem giving his honest opinion. Meek recalled a particular track he played for Jay that didn’t quite hit the mark. ” ‘Don’t even worry about that joint, go to the next one,’ ” Mill remembered Jay saying about the unnamed song. “Hov will mess up your whole confidence,” he continued. “That joint might not even make the album no more because you got a great like that telling you [no].” (MTV)
This week, Mill talked about getting co-signs from Jay and Hollywood star Will Smith amongst other notable celebrities.
On Oct. 10, a few more-than-notable guests stopped by a listening party for Meek Mill ‘s “Dreams & Nightmares” at New York’s Electric Lady Studios. Jay-Z and Will Smith poked their heads into the private event before the Maybach Music Group rapper previewed his album for a small crowd. By the end of the evening, producer/singer The-Dream, Philadelphia Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson, labelmate Wale and Maybach head Rick Ross had all shown up to support the 25-year-old MC. “He’s earned this himself,” Ross told the crowd. “I’m just proud of the homey.” “Dreams & Nightmares,” due Oct. 30 on Maybach/Warner Bros. Records, is only Mill’s studio debut. But the star-studded event demonstrated the buzz he already has. “Any time you see your work being recognized by some of the greatest in the game, it feels good,” says Mill, born Robert Williams. “It serves as motivation.” (Billboard)
SOHH also attended Meek’s private event and took note of New York Giants’ star Victor Cruz and fellow MMG member Wale’s presence.
“Warner Bros. held an intimate listening session for Meek Miill’s upcoming album, Dreams & Nightmares, at Manhattan’s Electric Lady Studios. With a crowd of less than 100 people, the music industry’s movers and shakers showed up to support the MMG prince’s new project. Among those were music and Hollywood heavyweights including Jay-Z, Will Smith, Rick Ross, Estelle, Wale and New York Giants player Victor Cruz.” (SOHH)
Following the event, Mill hopped onto his Twitter page to shout-out the A-list guests.
“S/o #hov & #willsmith stopped by my listening party today! They can smell legendary sh*t!,” he tweeted October 10th. (Meek Mill’s Twitter)
