NEWS: JAY-Z LOOSENS UP THE TIE, SAVES HIS TRIBECA NEIGHBORS?

Rap mogul Jay-Z reportedly felt the wrath of last week’s Hurricane Sandy and helped local New York neighbors regain electricity by providing a power generator.

Details of Young Hov’s alleged good deed surfaced online early Tuesday (November 6) morning.

TriBeCa neighbors are hailing Jay-Z as a Hurricane Sandy guardian angel. Though Jay is said to have sought refuge uptown, and was spotted with Beyoncé and Blue Ivy at the Mandarin Oriental following the storm, the word around TriBeCa is that the hip-hop mogul and part owner of the Brooklyn Nets bought a generator to power 195 Hudson St., where he and Beyoncé own a nearly $7 million loft. The Web site TribecaCitizen.com also noted the chatter, but when we put it to Jay’s rep, we simply got a “no comment.” Yesterday, Jay, along with Bruce Springsteen, performed at a rally for President Obama in Ohio, leading up to today’s election. Entering the week, Jay also openly shared his thoughts on Hurricane Sandy via a blog post.

“Reflecting on the first game in Brooklyn and thinking about the hurricane. Thinking about being undefeated and all the losses/wins that lie ahead. Life will always throw adversity and tragedy at us. We remain resilient! Heartfelt prayers go out to those who lost their lives and to the families who continue the fight.” (Life + Times)

The power generator may be needed again this week with reports of more nasty weather set to hit New York.

Residents of New York and New Jersey who were flooded out by Superstorm Sandy waited with dread Wednesday and heard warnings to evacuate for the second time in two weeks as another, weaker storm spun toward them and threatened to inundate their homes again or simply leave them shivering in the dark for even longer. In New York, Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordered police to use their patrol car loudspeakers to warn vulnerable residents about evacuating, one of a number of measures that the beleaguered city was taking even as weather experts said Wednesday’s nor’easter could be weaker than expected. Jay and his wife Beyoncé were spotted sitting courtside at last Saturday’s Brookly Nets home opener.

Beyonce and her hubby Jay-Z attend the Brooklyn Nets home opener at the Barclays Center on Saturday (November 3) in Brooklyn, N.Y. The 31-year-old singer and the 42-year-old rapper watched from the front row as the Nets beat the Toronto Raptors 107-100. Jay is a part owner of the team, which used to be known as the New Jersey Nets before its big move to Brooklyn this year. (Just Jared)
