Maybach Music Group protege Meek Mill continues to make headlines this week by officially inking a deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation management company.
Breaking the news through Young Hov’s Life + Times website, Meek explained his motivation for teaming up with the Roc.
“That’s the new deal I put together,” Meek said in an interview. “Me coming up in this rap game, I was always an underground artist coming up by myself and making all of the moves by myself. And my manager – he’s just like me, we’ve been coming up in the streets by ourselves. So we just decided to partner up with Roc Nation and take things to another level.” (Life + Times)
He also reflected on the value of being associated with both Rick Ross’ record label and Jay’s management team.
“I think it’s going to take me to the next level. I’ve got Warner Bros. behind me, Maybach Music Group, and Roc Nation; some of the most powerful people in the game. That’s like 80 percent of the game right there. You know, Ca$h Money, they like family. So it’s like you’ve got everyone on your team at one time, and it feels good to have all that behind you at once. It’s like a force that can’t be stopped.” (Life + Times)
The news also comes just days after he received a luxury Range Rover for his 25th birthday courtesy of the “Boss.”
Check out some footage we got while in the City of Brotherly Love waiting to board the yacht where Meek Mill’s 25th birthday party was held this weekend. After trying to get word from the Maybach boss Rick Ross about his new single, we captured a candid moment after Ross presented his new artist keys to a brand new Range Rover. Shout out to no mileage! (The LIFE Files)
Meek received ample birthday love from rappers including Juelz Santana and Atlanta’s own, DJ Drama during his celebration last weekend.
Rick Ross, Wale, French Montana, Juelz Santana, DJ Drama, Philadelphia 76ers basketball player Lou Williams and a host of family and friends were all on hand to wish Philly’s rap wonderkid well on his milestone. “I had to come home to support the big homey — I mean, the young boy, my young boy,” Philly native DJ Drama said. “I’m proud of him — celebrating his birthday, big mixtape in the streets, announces his album date. He’s really putting on for Philly.” (MTV)
