With rap veteran Nas’ upcoming album reportedly in the books, contributing producers Marcos “Kosine On Da Beat” Palacios and Ernest “Tuo” Clark offer fans a few clues to what they can expect on his tenth solo LP.
According to production duo, Da Internz, Nasty Nas is giving diehard fans a treat by taking it back to the days of his 1996 platinum-selling album, It Was Written.
“Nas is so cool, he’s so down-to-earth, and he’s so about allowing us to do our job as producers and let us put our vision on it,” Kosine told Rap-Up TV. “It’s been a dream come true.” The “Nasty” MC is sounding hungry on his new material. “This Nas album is not the Nas that is just like, This is cool. This is cute,” explained Tuo. “This is the Nas like really, ‘I’m trying to tear the skin off your face.’ He’s not playing around. Nas is taking you back to the lyrics and concepts like It Was Written.” (Rap-Up)
Last fall, New York rapper Donny Goines said Nas’ It Was Written outdid its acclaimed classic debut, Illmatic.
“It Was Written was like one of the best sophomore albums I had ever heard. To me, it was better than Illmatic. Before you guys crucify me, you have to understand I’m looking at things from a different perspective and I have my own opinion. Overall, I just thought it was really an amazing album from start to finish. Illmatic, to me, was more of a niche album. It was something where I liked it, enjoyed it but It Was Written was an album.” (SOHH)
Producer No. I.D. promises God’s Son’s LP will be filled with memorable hip hop tracks that are sure to be new classics.
“Yeah, the next main thing is this Nas album, I’ve really been knee-deep in it and working with Big Sean again and doing some records for Melanie Fiona,” No I.D. told VIBE. He continued: “I mean we have some classic material and we will definitely put out when he feels it’s time but it’s definitely a Dre… I don’t know, maybe hip-hop moment for me personally because he’s one of the best and I’ve always felt like I understood where he was going with music. We actually became really cool friends in this process and get to talk a lot about music.” (VIBE)
In February, the Queens Bridge native broke the news of his album’s long-awaited completion.
“Ayo Jung! Ya Bday comin!! We goin in. 5 days NONSTOP!!! Plus we celebrating my LP being WRAPPED!!!!!!,” he tweeted February 23rd. (Nas’ Twitter)
Although initial reports speculated that Nas’ new LP is entitled Life is God, an announced release date and official title have not yet been given.
